Customer Rating: Summary: "Daddy, turn it off - I don't like it!" Comment: Firstly, I can't believe that my life has come to this that I am writing a review for Fireman Sam! Sad - Yes, but I feel compelled on behalf of all the little people like my son who worship this cheeky yet slightly smug fire fighter, to warn potential purchasers of this dvd of the imminent disappointment they will experience when their kids watch this pile of squit!
I can't be alone in watching this and thinking 'Why?'. What were they thinking when they took a world wide successful format and sterilised it in to just another one of those drab computer animations that's instantly forgettable. Apparently the original creators S4C sold the rights to 'HIT Entertainment' - on the evidence of this effort, HIT decided to sub the job out to a cheap-as-chips animations firm to maximize profits - as Dreamworks this is not!
OK I'm an adult and its not meant for me, but for any kid who already knows and loves this series, they will just look at these episodes with a confused and dejected look on their face as they try to figure out why is Dylis Price now 20 years younger? Where's Bella Lasgne? Where is Rusty and who is Radar? And, most importantly, what's happened to their voices? If they're like my boy or my neighbour's kids they be pleading with you to put the old series back on again.
Shame.
Customer Rating: Summary: Rubbish computer animation. Stick to the classics instead Comment: We rushed out to buy this for our four and two year old who both love Fireman Sam but wish we hadn't bothered. The great stop-motion animation has gone to be replaced with rubbishy, false movement computer animation. This really doesn't work with all the special effects (tin foil instead of water) gone and it really doesn't work as well. Our children got bored of it quite soon and only spent about half the time watching it than the old version. Even worse the characters voices have all gone. John Sparkes was an improvement on John Alderton for Fireman Sams voice but whoever is voicing the new Fireman Sam sounds like a twenty year old. He's lost all his gravitas and listen to me because I know what I'm talking about sound. Station Officer Steele now sounds like an amateur is doing the voice and you don't even want to hear Norman who's lost all his cheekiness. Shame on the creators. I would like to see the stop motion come back and better still why not try a live action version one day, but not this awful, cheap computer animation please.
