Essential Books Shoppingโ Checklist
Identify the exact bookโ
Check the title, author and, where relevant, series name and number. If a particular edition is required, also check publisher, publication details, format and ISBN. The International ISBN Agency explains that ISBNs identify specific publications and formats, so they are particularly useful when several versions of a book appear in search results.
Check format and condition
Decide whether the required product is hardback, paperback, ebook, audiobook or another format. For used booksโ , read the condition description and check whether important components such as dust jackets, maps or supplements are included. For digital products, confirm device or application compatibility and the product type. Do not assume that two listings with the same title are identical products.
Check seller and final purchase details
Before ordering, review the seller, total price, delivery information and returns arrangements. Compare like-for-like editions rather than comparing a new current edition with an older used copy without checking the differences. UK consumer law protects consumers in relation to goods and digital content, including rights where digital content is faulty. Keep the order confirmation and product details until the purchase has been checked.
