Giant rabbits are large domestic rabbit breeds. The BRC identifies British Giant and Continental Giant among large breeds and notes that the Fur section generally includes larger breeds.

2. Key facts and specifications

Adult size is the critical specification for housing and equipment. A giant rabbit needs considerably more floor space, stronger construction and larger doors, litter trays, carriers and feeding equipment than a small breed.

3. Practical guidance

Plan the adult environment before acquiring the rabbit. RSPCA guidance recommends a large living and exercise area, with enough room to hop, run, jump, dig and stretch fully. The enclosure should have solid non-slip flooring and secure shelter.

4. Suitability, choices and limitations

Large rabbits may be unsuitable where owners cannot provide enough space or safely move and clean the equipment. A giant rabbit is not simply a small rabbit that has grown larger; its accommodation and handling needs change with body size.

5. UK-specific considerations

RSPCA recommends at least 3m x 2m x 1m for two medium-sized rabbits as a guide; individual giant rabbits may require more. Use current welfare guidance rather than a fixed breed-only minimum.
