Choose enough space

Consider the adult size and swimming behaviour of every fish, not its size when purchased. Heating, filtration and water quality

Tropical fish require species-appropriate temperatures, normally maintained with a correctly controlled heater and monitored with a thermometer. Filtration is essential because fish waste can quickly create toxic compounds. A biological filter provides bacteria that process ammonia and nitrite, while regular testing and water changes help maintain suitable conditions. New aquariums should be fishlessly cycled before stocking.

Safe placement and structure

An aquarium needs a sturdy, suitable support and should be positioned away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
