Grouping cats by size can help shoppers think about equipment, carrier space, bed dimensions and household suitability, but size is only one factor. Use breed or adult-weight information as a guide rather than a guarantee. Individual cats vary by sex, age, body condition and genetics, and healthy weight should be assessed rather than pursuing a particular number.

Large cats need appropriately sized carriers, litter facilities, beds, scratching structures and climbing equipment. Check internal dimensions and weight limits carefully. Large breeds such as Maine Coons can need substantially more robust equipment, while body condition still matters more than a breed label when assessing health.

Medium-sized cats represent a broad range of domestic cats and pedigrees. Equipment should be selected by the individual animal's dimensions and behaviour. Measure before buying carriers, beds or harnesses. Allow enough room for the cat to turn, rest and stretch, and avoid restricting normal movement simply because a product is marketed for a size category.

Small cats and smaller-bodied breeds may suit owners who prefer compact equipment, but they still need normal opportunities to climb, play, hide and exercise. Choose equipment for the individual cat, not simply the label 'small'. Carrier doors, litter trays, scratching posts and resting areas must still allow comfortable movement and natural behaviour.
