This policy explains how ShopperWorld collects, uses and protects personal information when you use the website, Member Area and related services.

1. Who we are

ShopperWorld operates the ShopperWorld local discovery, business directory and community platform. References to “ShopperWorld”, “we”, “us” or “our” in this policy mean the operator of this website.

2. Information we collect

• Account information: name, email address, password credentials (stored securely as a hash), account status, membership level and registration details.
• Business information: information supplied to create, claim or manage a business listing, including business contact details, categories, locations, images, opening hours and services.
• Communications: messages, support requests and information you send through ShopperWorld.
• Technical and security information: IP address, browser/device information, login activity, security events and cookies or similar technologies where used.
• Payment information: where paid services are introduced, transaction and billing records needed to administer purchases. Card details may be processed by a payment provider rather than stored by ShopperWorld.

3. Social sign-in

If you choose to sign in using an external provider such as Facebook, Google, Apple, TikTok or X, ShopperWorld will request only information needed for authentication and account setup. The exact information depends on the provider and permissions you approve.

For the current Facebook pilot, ShopperWorld is designed to request basic profile information and an email address where Facebook makes one available. We use the provider's account identifier to connect the correct external identity to your ShopperWorld account, your name to help identify/pre-fill your account, and your email for account identification and communications.

Using social sign-in does not give ShopperWorld permission to post to your account or access private messages, posts, photos, likes, contacts or location unless we separately request such access and clearly explain it first.

Social authentication does not bypass ShopperWorld registration requirements. Members must complete required registration information and meet our email-verification requirements before using protected Member Area features.

4. How we use information

• create, authenticate and secure accounts;
• provide and administer business listings and membership features;
• respond to enquiries and support requests;
• send essential service, verification, security and account communications;
• prevent spam, fraud, misuse and unauthorised access;
• maintain, troubleshoot and improve the platform;
• meet legal, accounting and regulatory obligations.

5. Lawful basis

Depending on the activity, we process information because it is necessary to provide a service you request or perform a contract, because we have a legitimate interest in operating and securing ShopperWorld, because we have a legal obligation, or because you have given consent. Where consent is relied upon, you may withdraw it subject to applicable law.

6. Sharing information

We may use trusted service providers for functions such as hosting, email delivery, authentication, analytics, security and payments. They should receive only information needed to provide their service. We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect users, ShopperWorld or others.

7. Retention and security

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, including legal, security and accounting requirements. We use appropriate technical and organisational safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

8. Your rights

Depending on applicable UK data-protection law, you may have rights to access, correct, erase or restrict personal data, object to certain processing, request portability, and complain to the relevant supervisory authority. Identity verification may be required before fulfilling a request.

9. Children

ShopperWorld is not intended to knowingly collect children's personal information without an appropriate lawful basis and safeguards. Age-related requirements will be reviewed as community features develop.

10. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as ShopperWorld develops. Material changes should be communicated appropriately. Contact details for privacy requests should be published on the live site before public launch.
